Nothing new! Maybe it becomes easily acceptable because now it comes from the mouth of the 'white man'.....the knowledge that should've been come to accept by us Hindus through our ancestors. Strangely the British had other ideas; something that would make recent generation of Hindus (& other Indians) deeply suspicious and denigrative of their invaluable culture - the Macaulayian concept of 'slave education' ......(I'm still reeling from its effects!!)
